What is the architect’s profession when it comes to shaping the contemporary city? It can be argued that, in the global world, architectural practices extend beyond the planning of our future cities. In fact, the desire to create new spaces for our new cities would also need to incorporate some key issues, such as the flow of people and goods between different territories. It has been said that globality is about communication, relationships, and, most importantly, about flows. “Performativity in Architecture” presents the work created at the Estudio Teddy Cruz (ETC) about the “border area” between the U.S. and Mexico. To think of architectural production in terms of performance would also presuppose the incorporation of new aspects of practice within the profession. The ETC proposes that we engage in legislative work on a community level with the support of governmental and private entities.
