"The Chi-Canarian Expo," a Photo-Performance Portfolio by Guillermo Gómez-Peña, 2006 In recent years, performance artist Guillermo Gómez-Peña has at last ventured into the realm of "object art" with a series of "Photo-Performance" portfolios. As a group, they belong to a larger body of work titled "The New Barbarians" that explores the cultural fears of the West after 9/11. A catalogue of the project will be published by City Lights in late 2006. Presented here is "The Chi-Canarian Expo," shot in black and white in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with photographer Teresa Correa in the summer of 2005. Performers are members of Guillermo Gómez-Peña's legendary performance troupe La Pocha Nostra (Violeta Luna, Silvia Antolin Guerra, Roberto Sifuentes and Rakini) as well as local artists. The portfolio was curated by Canarian Orlando Britto-Jinorio and printed by BRH Editions at Daylight Professional Laboratory, Madrid. The project was sponsored by Galería Artificios (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). For information regarding exhibition and publication please contact Orlando Britto at: britther@correo.cop.es. |
