Jo-Anne Suriel has performed traditional music and dance of the Southern Philippines with Kinding Sindaw since 2002. She is also a founding member of Areytos, an artist consortium dedicated to organizing events celebrating Afro-Dominican arts and culture, bringing awareness to the community about issues of identity within the Dominican diaspora, and deconstructing the effects of colonialism in the Dominican Republic.

Jo-Anne grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and has lived in New York City since 2000. She has a BA in Chinese from Swarthmore College and is currently an MA candidate in Performance Studies at NYU.
