The Hemispheric Institute' s Fourth Annual Encuentro is almost here!. This year’s topic, “Spectacles of Religiosities,” works as an organizing concept for a broad range of workshops, mini scholarly seminars, installations, and performances, working groups and round-table discussions.

Workshops include among others, mask making, performing with objects, performance as activism, indigenous performance traditions, dance from various parts of the Americas and web technologies for art, activism, and education.

Seminars focus on comparatist themes in the Americas: performance theory, feminist and gay/lesbian performance, ethnic performance, art and activism, and other topics of hemispheric importance.

Nightly performances feature major artists Susana Baca, Denise Stoklos, Jesusa Rodriguez and Liliana Felipe, Reverend Billy, Carmelita Tropicana, Marga Gomez, Susana Cook, Nao Bustamante, East Coast Artists.

We are still accepting applications for general participation.  Affordable dorm housing is still available.
