This project consists of two parts- one written, one conceptual.
The purpose of this bi-level project is to contribute
to an archive of knowledge via the internet, to explore
the connections between resistance, theater, politics
and multimedia performance, and to create my own conceptual
netart gesture.
[the background] of this project consists
of a brief analysis of the play Information for Foreigners
by Griselda Gambaro, which includes a historical contextualization of the play within Argentina's Dirty War. I examine how the play can resonate at this specific moment and how it can be useful within a U.S. (rather than only an Argentine) consciousness. I have deliberately chosen not to discuss specific scenes or plot trajectories within this context because I would rather let the performance stand on its own. Instead I have focused on the theme of "cruelty" within "civilized" society.
[the performance] is a conceptual online
performance gesture inspired by the text of Information
for Foreigners. This webart project utilizes the
tools of the internet to create an online
art experience that is a response to the text rather
than a realization of the text. This project is not literal online staging of the play, but rather a conceptual piece using collage, recontextualization,
deconstruction and interpretation of the text and images
from the play.
